Dearborn Arab Fest results in a peaceful celebration of Arab culture
Dearborn, Mi.— Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad reports that the 15th Annual Dearborn Arab International Festival was a “successful and well-attended family celebration of Arab culture and cuisine.”
The three-day event drew crowds estimated at 200,000, according to the City of Dearborn Special Events Coordinator Eric Peterson. Additionally, Festival Director Faye Beydoun of the American Arab Chamber of Commerce advises that a record number of children enjoyed the carnival rides this year.
The Dearborn Police Department report that four (4) arrests were made on Friday evening. Three (3) of the arrested parties were charged with Breach of Peace, and the fourth (4) subject was charged with Breach of Peace and Fail to Obey the Lawful Order of a Police Officer, both misdemeanor charges.
The Dearborn Police report that on Saturday, one (1) arrest was made for Breach of Peace and two (2) arrests were made for Fail to Obey the Lawful order of a Police Officer.
On Sunday, Dearborn Police arrested one (1) subject on a Misdemeanor Traffic warrant and one (1) individual for Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of Drugs.
The weather did create an issue on Friday night at approximately 9:45pm when a severe thunderstorm moved through the area and the festival had to be evacuated. Chief Haddad stated the evacuation was orderly and there were no reported problems or damage as a result of the storm.
Chief Haddad credits the preparations made by all the parties involved for the success of the event. Chief Haddad stated, “The American Arab Chamber of Commerce, hosting its 15th annual festival, showed its genuine hospitality and friendliness as the proud Arab culture and cuisine was displayed to the thousands of visitors at the 2010 Dearborn Arab International Festival.”
