Throughout all periods of time, there were a lot of people who have had a great mission to tell the entire world about their countries and cultures. In the old history, they used traditional ways to let different people know about other cultures, and they were great representatives for their countries. Recently, their grand children have decided to continue on the same mission, but by modern ways and high technology.
I've had the chance to be one of them through doing the same thing, and teaching the American people about the Yemeni and the Islamic culture. During Nov 17-21, I participated in an activity sponsored by the U.S Department of State and the U.S Department of Education to expand Americans' knowledge about other countries and cultures in this world and to build better communication among them.
The presentation included most of the things that they should know about Yemen in a short period of time. It compared the differences and similarities between the two cultures. The audience was so interested in the Yemeni traditions and customs. They were also so excited to know more things about Yemen. They asked a lot of questions and they got good answers using different examples from their daily life.
I presented the presentation twelve times in my High school (Pleasanton High School) in different classes and one time in the Church of Christ, Pleasanton, TX.
As a result, 300-320 of the people got the chance to know about Yemen and the Islamic culture. Having a look at this huge number of people who knew about Yemen from one person, gives a great encouragement to the Yemeni people who live in the US to keep up the same mission in their small communities.
